Calling all medical journalists and medical media professionals! The New York Association of Black Journalists, through an education grant provided by Ethicon Endo-Surgery, is hosting an editorial roundtable featuring a variety of experts on the obesity crisis in the African-American community. Obesity is linked to more than 30 diseases and conditions which can be debilitating and even deadly. Panelists will include: Dr. Virgie Bright Ellington; Jamie Dukes; Dr. Terrance Fullum; Dr. William Gibbs; and a yet-to-be-named New York Times medical journalist, who will address the issue of coverage of obesity and the role of the modern media. Networking will take place after the discussion and refreshments will be served.

Journalism educators, professionals and students can develop and hone their skills in audio, photo and video storytelling at a Multimedia Boot Camp taught by the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute. The hands-on training program is modeled after the Freedom Forum’s acclaimed multimedia curriculum and is equivalent to a 3-credit-hour college course.
